Minsk
Minsk is the capital of the Republic of Belarus and was founded in 1067 Minsk became the capital in 1919.
At present Minsk is the capital of an independent state with its own state symbols, Parliament and President. It's a growing city with the population of more than 2 million. It occupies an area of 200 square kilometers.
Foreign invaders destroyed Minsk many times over the centuries. During the World War II our capital was almost completely destroyed by the fascists. But in the post-war years it was rebuilt anew.
Minsk is a Hero-City. It was honoured with the title in 1974 for the courage and heroism displayed by its residents during the Great Patriotic War.

There are hundreds of modern plants and factories in the city which produce tractors and lorries, motorcycles and bicycles, Tv-sets and watches, textiles and footwear, food and other goods. Minsk is also a city of science and students. There are more than 20 state and commercial institutions which train specialists in different fields of economy and social life.

Minsk has many museums: the National Museum of Belarusian History and Culture, the National Arts Museum, the Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War and others.The Belarusian capital's first-ever dolphinarium opened at the Minsk Zoo on December 10-2011. The dolphinarium can hold up to 700 people. Shows during which the animals perform various tricks takes place three times a day six days a week.

The cultural life of the Belarusian capital is very interesting. There are many museums and exhibitions, a number of theatres and cinemas, concert halls and a circus, libraries and clubs in Minsk. The leading theatres are the Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Yanka Kupala National Theatre, the Gorky Russian Drama Theatre, the Musical Comedy Theatre which are very popular with the public.
